Mike Campbell

Mike has been in the music industry his entire working life – in record retail, record companies, independent promotion, television, talent booking, artist management, event production - and is now the owner/talent booker of The Carleton Music Bar & Grill (Music Nova Scotia’s Venue of the Year for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and the Venue of the Year from the ECMA in 2012 and 2013) in Halifax. He is also the music curator of the Halifax Urban Folk Festival (HUFF), which runs annually in the last week of August through the Labour Day weekend.

Mike worked for MuchMusic for 18 years as host of Mike & Mike’s Excellent X Canada Adventures, MuchEast and Going Coastal. He’s lived in Halifax for 23 years. Since leaving MuchMusic in 2002 he has continued to remain close to the action on the East Coast. Some highlights include programming the pop/rock talent for the National Arts Centre’s Atlantic Scene festival in 2003, booking the Marquee Club (Halifax’s largest venue at the time) in 2004/5 and producing JunoFest in Halifax in 2006. Until he opened The Carleton, he was also a member of Joel Plaskett’s management team.

Mike has done work over the years – in many capacities -  with the ECMAs, CARAS, FACTOR and has been a director on the board of Music Nova Scotia for well over a decade. He also served on the original board of the newly created Unison Benevolent Fund, a charitable organization founded to help musicians and music industry professionals in times of need.

He is responsible for Music Nova Scotia’s annual “Tiki” showcase event at Canada Music Week in Toronto.
