Peter Willie Youngtree has done 50 performances in Canada since October 2015. His debut album Country Hymns was awarded MusicNL’s 2016 Country Recording of the Year. It also made eight Top 10 and Top 30 charts on Earshot! Campus and Community Radio stations, was long-listed for the Borealis Music Prize, and was called one of the best Newfoundland albums of the year by Overcast Magazine. Two tracks from the album are in rotation on CBC’s national Alt-Country online radio station and one track is featured on Top Country Canada’s “Campfire Country” Spotify playlist.
In May 2016, Youngtree shared the stage with modern folk icon Jennifer Castle at the Lawnya Vawnya Festival. This performance was called “beautiful” by Vish Khanna at national arts magazine Exclaim!, describing "vividly written songs that recall classic Country-Rock figures like Gram Parsons.” In June 2016, Youngtree appeared on CTV and Global Television in Atlantic Canada and received province-wide attention for his re-write of the classic Newfoundland anthem The Government Game. Most recently, Youngtree performed to a sold-out audience at the 2016 MusicNL acoustic stage showcase. Youngtree is currently crafting his sophomore release Musical Chairs.
