Marketing and Communications Manager

The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) a registered non-profit association dedicated to the music of Atlantic Canada. The East Coast Music Awards: Festival and Conference is a five-day, non-stop musical celebration showcasing and recognizing the best of East Coast artists and music. The ultimate goal of this internationally recognized event is to position and promote it as the premiere music event for the public and the music industry in Canada and the conference of choice for artists and industry professionals.
It is the ECMA’s mission to develop, advance and celebrate East Coast Canadian music, its artists and its industry professionals throughout the region and around the world. We advocate for our members to ensure they can sustain music careers while based in Canada’s Atlantic region.
This is an exciting position with growth potential in an established and expanding organization based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This position has overall responsibility for managing marketing and communications for ECMA including the annual music festival and conference. This position works under minimal supervision in a team environment and is accountable for ensuring appropriate messaging is communicated through traditional media, social media, website and other sources. Occasional overtime is required to accommodate daytime and evening activities. Some travel is required within Atlantic Canada to attend meetings, conferences, and festivals.

Management of all areas related to ECMA’s marketing, communications, social media, and messaging. Responsible for adhering to the Marketing and Communication critical path and ensuring that all deadlines are met.
Developing and executing comprehensive event marketing and advertising plans with an emphasis on driving ticket sales for the festival, awards shows and special events.
Write copy for print, radio, online, and television advertising to ensure appropriate messaging is filtered to audience. Coordinate all ECMA marketing campaigns.
Supervising the graphic designer in creating all event and association collateral and promotional material, and working with individual departments to coordinate all required copy and content for publications and promotions.
Coordination and execution of all ECMA press conferences.
Prepare, solicit, and manage content for the ECMA e-newsletter on a weekly basis and distribute electronically to the members.
Content management and creation as required for the website, social media and mobile app, including leading the team in the new website development project.
Ongoing social media management for the Association, and management of social media staff and volunteers for the annual event, providing direct supervision.
Work with publicist to prepare and distribute press releases and publicity campaigns.
Stay up to date and follow marketing and communication trends and apply them to the organization as needed.
Manage marketing team including Sales and Community Outreach Coordinator, social media and photography teams.
Manage marketing budget.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated outstanding oral and written communication skills
Proven ability in media relations and public speaking
Significant customer service and negotiation skills
Have strong organizational skills, detail oriented with a strong ability to prioritize to meet deadlines
Proven interpersonal and leadership skills, experience with volunteer-run organizations and working with a Board of Directors; work well independently and with others
Work well under pressure
Be creative, resourceful, flexible, and takes initiative
Reliable, hard-working, conscientious and a team player with a positive attitude
Strong understanding of East Coast music industry
Crisis management skills
Computer/word processing skills including Google Drive, InDesign, Photoshop
Experience with Mailchimp
Experience working with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
Experience of website content management
Knowledge of event management and working with volunteers and contractors considered an asset
3-5 years of marketing or related experience
Bilingual in French and English considered an asset
A degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related fields considered an asset
