The ECMA Board of Directors Election is now open and will stay open until Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00PM AST.

You must be an ECMA member to vote. Voting is taking place on www.www.ecma.com in your MyECMA section. Please log into your account, click "Vote" from the MyECMA drop-down menu and you will be guided to the online voting form. (See photo above)

Bands will be given a total of four (4) votes, whereas Corporate and Non-Profit members will be given two (2) votes. All other members will be given one (1) vote.

Ten nominees, including two incumbents, are vying for five spots on the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) Board of Directors, one from each region (Cape Breton, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island).

Successful candidates will serve a two-year term from September 2015 until September 2017.

The results of the election will be announced at the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in Sydney, NS.

CAPE BRETON:

Dawn Beaton (Incumbent)
Dawn hails from Mabou, Cape Breton and has been playing fiddle, and step dancing for over 25 years! Music has been at the forefront of her life, surrounded by it through an infusion from her parents, her relatives, and living in the vibrant community of Mabou. Along with her fiddling sister, Margie, they decided in 2008 to release their debut album, Taste of Gaelic. It led to opportunities right from the CD release to attend one of the largest Celtic festivals in the world, the Lorient Interceltique Festival in Lorient, France. From there the girls have traveled and taught in Scotland, England, Brazil, China, Ireland and the United States, not to mention an ECMA win for Roots/Traditional Duo or Group Recording of the Year - 2010!

Dawn attended Mabou Consolidated School. She received the Lt. Governor and Governor General’s medal, was Class Valedictorian and top of her graduating class. After receiving the J.P. McCarthy scholarship to St. F.X. University, she graduated with First Class Honours in Business Administration in 2004.

Besides being a musician, she has worked for KPMG in Halifax, as manager for Strathspey Place in Mabou, and is the Artistic Director for Celtic Colours International Festival. She sits on the Executive Committee of the East Coast Music Awards Board as well as NextGen Cape Breton. Dawn has been an active board member with the ECMA organization since 2010.

Albert Lionais
I have been active in the music industry for over 15 years as a performer, student, educator, administrator, road manager, promoter, live sound and studio engineer and artist manager. In 2005 I graduated from the Bachelor of Music program at Mount Allison University where I worked at CHMA Radio as Production Manager for two years. Over the last number of years I’ve worked with Company House Records, the East Coast Music Association, served as FOH engineer at countless clubs in Eastern Canada and I continue to play with the ECMA award-winning group The Tom Fun Orchestra and a slew of other bands. I’m also a past director with the ECMA and MNS boards and sat for a brief period of time on FACTOR’s National Advisory Board. Over the past number of years I’ve been working with the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative. We’ve been delivering programming to educate and support Cape Breton’s music industry, artists and industry professionals. With CBMIC I have been part of a team administering programs worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. I’m also a past director with Music Nova Scotia. I’m very happy to be working with such a hardworking and dedicated group of folks throughout Atlantic Canada to continue to develop the music industry.

François Rouleau
Je suis en administration scolaire depuis 1994. D'abord à la direction d'une école du Grand nord du Québec pour trois ans, j'ai été successivement directeur adjoint de IMDH à Arichat (97-99), coordonnateur des services aux élèves (99-2000), directeur du Centre scolaire Étoile de l'Acadie (00-07) puis directeur régional depuis septembre 2007. Sans faire la liste complète des activités de bénévolat, je peux quand même souligner les quelques années impliquées dans le hockey mineur, le soccer dont 2 ans comme vice-président du Riverview Soccer Club puis président du premier comité organisateur des jeux régionaux de l'Acadie de Sydney. J'ai aussi siégé pendant deux ans (95-97) sur le conseil communautaire Étoile de l'Acadie. Je suis depuis 5 ans membre des gouverneurs de l'association canadienne d'éducation de langue française (ACELF). J'ai aussi été directeur de la thématique du 67e congrès de l'Acelf organisé à Halifax en septembre dernier. Il y avait 725 participants. C'est le plus gros congrès de l'Acelf en Nouvelle-Écosse. Enfin, je suis très engagé depuis les touts débuts dans un projet d'établissement d'un centre culturel acadien et francophone dans la région de Sydney, un projet important du Centre communautaire Étoile de l'Acadie.

NEW BRUNSWICK:

Zachary Atkinson
With over 10 years of experience promoting in Fredericton and around the Maritimes, most of Zach Atkinson’s time is focused on programming and marketing The Capital Complex. Named in the Top 10 during the CBC Searchlight for “Venue of the Year 2009”, The Capital’s main goal is presenting live music, local, national and international. Since his start as an all ages promoter and stepping into the roll of Booking Agent with The Capital Complex, Zach has moved into other New Brunswick markets programming music for Saint John venue Peppers Pub, working on events throughout New Brunswick region. In 2012 Atkinson was named in the ‘Top 30 under 30’ presented by Here Magazine for the New Brunswick Region, sites on the city of Fredericton Arts Advisory Committee, is currently working with Music New Brunswick organization to plan and execute their 2014 awards week in his home city. He is part of the organizing team for Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, Pre-Pop music festival and city of Fredericton Saturday Summer concert series held in Officer Square. Working with local folk trio The Olympic Symphonium he is part of the team who curates and operates the newly formed Shivering Songs Festival. With an education background in Graphic Design and a small team, Zach also runs a music solutions company focusing on manufacturing, merchandising and web development.

Shawn Bostick (Incumbent)
2014 Music New Brunswick Educator of the Year Nominee Shawn Bostick is a performer, recording artist, educator and arts manager living in Eastern Canada. He holds music degrees from Mount Allison University and St. Francis Xavier University. Shawn established the Atlantic Waves Imprint label during his tenure as Atlantic Regional Director of the Canadian Music Centre. The label’s second release Between the Shore and the Ships won two 2013 East Coast Music Awards. Shawn is a board member for ECMA and Music New Brunswick. In the fall of 2014 Shawn recorded Dave Thomson's latest album Canadian on Citadel House Records. Shawn’s work as an Arts Manager and Agent engages artists including Dave Thomson, Live Bait Theatre, Sackville Festival of Early Music, and Chris Hadfield. In July 2015, Shawn with Live Bait Theatre Produced "Reader Be Thou Also Ready".

Stephany Peterson
Stephany's passion is fervently expressed through the intricate entwining of work and play, delivering opportunities to engage with Arts&Culture for the citizens of our community. Her commitment to arts&culture is a triumvirate: professional, academic, and service. In a professional capacity, she coordinates signature festivals and events throughout the year, including Canada Day Festivities and Buskers on the Bay Festival; in her academic life, she is pursuing a doctorate in cultural studies, exploring the culture of the notion of 'local'; and, her community service finds her active participation in numerous Arts&Culture endeavours and arts and millennial boards and committees, including the Board of Directors of FUSION and the Saint John Community Arts Board. Named a Young Leader to Watch by the Y Red Triangle Awards, it is her mission to curate, furnish, and support Arts&Culture in an array of mediums, genres, and venues in - and for - our region.

Eleanor Dawson
Eleanor Dawson has been involved with the cultural community of Newfoundland and Labrador for the past thirty years. From administering the Province's largest pan-discipline lobby group (the Association of Cultural Industries), to administering various programs and projects within the Department of Tourism Culture and Recreation, to her most recent position of Director of Arts (2006 – 2015), her skill set and employment experience has covered the gamut of administrative, analytical, research and managerial roles. She has worked extensively in the community as a researcher, writer, producer, director, administrator and event manager. Upon retirement in August 2015, she will resume her work within the cultural community. One of the founders of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, she continues to be involved with that festival as a volunteer and performer. She currently co - hosts a monthly song circle in St. John's.

NOVA SCOTIA:

James Boyle (Acclaimed)
James has a love for music that courses through his veins! Currently working as executive director of the Halifax Pop Explosion, James is also a founder of the east coast label Forward Music Group and was a concert promoter with Sonic Concerts. As a professional, James has poured every ounce of energy he has into the East Coast music community bringing a fresh perspective with tried and true results. ECMA exists to play an important role in fostering the music industry in Atlantic Canada and to stand up for the members it represents. There is strength in numbers and James thrives on building music communities. With an ever changing musical landscape, it is important to be current, stay connected and remain inclusive - All traits James holds in high regard.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Jim Power (Acclaimed)
Jim has been an active member in the music community, promoting, sponsoring, coordinating, arranging events and performances on the east coast. Such engagement as: > Active and coordinating board member of TD PEI JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL
> Secretary Treasurer of Small Halls Inc. presenters of PEI MUTUAL FESTIVAL OF SMALL HALLS.
> Coordinating bookings for east coast artists.
> RADIO ECMA program director and Opportunity Stage producer annually during ECMW.
> Supporting sponsorship coordination with TD Halifax Jazz Festival. Jim was born and raised in Cape Breton, career experienced in metro Halifax for 20 years and now resides on PEI to be engaged in the Island music community
