The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is thrilled to announce the 2022 East Coast Music Award nominees. Hillsburn and The Town Heroes lead the pack with 5 music nominations each. Followed closely by Andrew Waite with 4. Coming in with 3 a piece is Andy Creeggan, Chloé Breault, Justin Fancy, Kelly McMichael, Morgan Toney, Paragon Cause and Quote the Raven.

The 34^th annual East Coast Music Awards: Festival & Conference will be held May 4 – 8, 2022 in Fredericton, NB. Further announcements from the ECMA, including showcasing artists, conference details, and more will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

L’Association de la musique de la côte Est (ECMA) est heureuse d’annoncer les finalistes pour les Prix de la musique de la côte Est. Hillsburn et The Town Heroes sont en tête du peloton, ayant cinq nominations de la musique chacun. Andrew Waite les suit de près, avec quatre nominations, puis Andy Creeggan, Chloé Breault, Justin Fancy, Kelly McMichael, Morgan Toney, Paragon Cause et Quote the Raven, avec trois nominations pour chacun de ces finalistes.

CHANGES TO 2022 AWARDS

The ECMA is consistently reviewing its awards criteria to ensure it accurately reflects the music industry in the moment. It is important to us that we speak directly to our members and industry stakeholders to adjust and refine where needed and do so on an annual basis. For the 2022 awards submissions, ECMA made the following changes:

1. Classical Composer of the Year: Category name changed from Composition to Composer to better reflect how classical music is written and performed. This allows for Atlantic Canadian composers to include works that may have been recorded outside of Atlantic Canada. It also allows for individual songs to be considered alongside full-length releases.
2. Dance/Electronic/Rap/HipHop Recording of the Year: Removed the requirement for a full-length release in the same eligibility period. This allows for singles and EPs, traditionally more prominent in these genres, to be considered alongside full-length releases.
3. Producer of the Year: Adjusted the requirements to open the category to a growing number of new producers. It is important to ECMA to reduce barriers to submissions by adjusting requirements based on changes seen in the producing space. This includes removing minimums and allowing for the contribution to performed by musicians outside Atlantic Canada if it is produced in Atlantic Canada.
4. Definition Changes:
   1. Full-length recording eligibility changed to align with Industry standards, meaning 5 songs or 15 mins in length.
   2. Export ready – included self-managed as an option to broaden the requirement of “management team”.
5. Global Recording of The Year: Reintroduced for 2022.

Please note, that although Live Sound Engineer of the Year was a category for consideration in this awards cycle, there were not enough submissions to run the category for 2022. It will be run in 2023.


CHANGEMENTS APPORTÉS AUX PRIX 2022

L’ECMA revoit les critères relatifs à ses prix de façon régulière, afin de veiller à ce qu’ils reflètent l’industrie musicale telle qu’elle est à l’heure actuelle. Il est essentiel pour nous de communiquer directement avec nos membres ainsi qu’avec les intervenants de l’industrie pour nous adapter et nous améliorer, le cas échéant, et ce, chaque année. Voici les changements apportés par l’AMCE en ce qui concerne les candidatures pour les prix 2022 :

1. Compositeur ou compositrice classique de l’année : Le nom de la catégorie a été modifié, de Composition à Compositeur ou compositrice, afin de mieux refléter la façon dont la musique classique est écrite et interprétée. Cela permet aux compositeurs du Canada atlantique d’y intégrer des œuvres qui pourraient avoir été enregistrées en dehors du Canada atlantique. Cela permet également de tenir compte des chansons individuelles au même titre que les d’albums complets.
2. Enregistrement de l’année, catégories Dance, Électronique et Rap/hip-Hop : L’exigence concernant la parution d’un album complet au cours de la même période d’admissibilité a été retirée. Cela permet de tenir compte des simples et des microalbums, qui occupent habituellement une place plus importante dans ces genres musicaux, au même titre que les albums complets.
3. Réalisateur ou réalisatrice de l’année : Les exigences ont été adaptées afin d’ouvrir cette catégorie à un nombre croissant de nouveaux réalisateurs. Il est important pour l’AMCE d’ajuster ses exigences afin de réduire les obstacles à l’égard des candidatures, en fonction de l’évolution observée dans le domaine de la réalisation. Cela comprend le retrait des minimums et l’approbation d’une contribution ayant été interprétée par des musiciens originaires de l’extérieur du Canada atlantique, si sa réalisation a eu lieu au Canada atlantique.
4. Changements apportés à certaines définitions :
   1. L’admissibilité d’un album complet à titre d’enregistrement a été modifiée afin de s’ajuster aux normes de l’industrie, ce qui signifie cinq chansons ou une durée de 15 minutes.
   2. Prêt à l’exportation : comprend maintenant une option de « gestion autonome », afin d’élargir l’exigence relative à « l’équipe de gestion. »
5. Enregistrement de l’année – Monde : Réintroduction en 2022.

Veuillez noter que, même si la catégorie « Ingénieur ou ingénieure du son de l’année » a été prise en considération dans le cadre de ce cycle d’attribution des prix, trop peu de candidatures ont été reçues pour procéder à la remise d’un prix dans cette catégorie en 2022. Cette catégorie sera présentée en 2023
